Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in Orange County

Best chocolate chip cookies in Orange County

Look, I’m just going to be honest… I’ve had more chocolate chip cookies in Orange County than any one human should probably admit. Some days you’re running between showings, or stuck in traffic on the 405, or you just need something to turn the day around… and that warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie becomes the hero.

So here’s my personal, friend-to-friend guide to the best chocolate chip cookies in Orange County, straight from someone who has definitely used “market research” as an excuse to purchase another one (or maybe a few dozens)!

Table of Contents

What Makes a Cookie Worth the Drive?

For me, it’s pretty simple:

  • Crispy edges with a warm, soft center

  • Real chocolate — not a sprinkle, not a suggestion, the real deal. The good stuff.

  • A dough that doesn’t punch you in the face with sweetness. Something that’s salty and made with plenty of butter.

  • And that moment when you open the bag, and the smell alone makes you stop talking.

If a cookie checks those boxes, I’m committed. That’s right, it means we’ve found a winner!

Here are the spots around OC that consistently earn that level of respect.

Paderia Bakehouse – Irvine & Fountain Valley

If you’ve been here, you already know. Paderia doesn’t play around. Their cookies are thick, warm, and borderline dangerous. The sea salt chocolate chip? Unreal. The chocolate walnut? A whole event. These are the cookies you eat slowly because they’re so good you don’t want the moment to end. When I set my mind to one of these cookies, I’m on a mission to get my hands on them. They’re that good!

Chip Cookies – Tustin & OC Area

Chip is the place that hands you a warm cookie, and honestly, that’s only half the reason I love them. Their chocolate chip cookie melts in your hands, the sea salt gives it this perfect finish, and it feels like something your friend baked for you at 10 p.m. because “you seemed stressed.” Definitely one of my favorites after a long day of showing homes!

Milk & Cookies – Costa Mesa

This is my go-to when I just want a real, classic chocolate chip cookie. Nothing fancy. Nothing extra. Just soft, warm, chocolatey goodness that tastes like something you grew up with. Just think the most delicious cookie baked by your favorite grandmother. It’s comforting, simple, and always hits the spot!

Hurst Coffee Roasters – Laguna Niguel

This one is a quiet local gem. Where you go for the coffee, but the cookie actually steals the show. These cookies are soft, lightly crisp around the edges, with big puddles of chocolate in the middle. They pair perfectly with their lattes, and it’s the kind of cookie that makes you sit in your car for an extra two minutes just to enjoy it without rushing. I may or may not have more than one cookie in my order there!

Blackmarket Bakery – Costa Mesa

Rich. Chewy. Loaded with chocolate. Just a few things to describe these cookies! Every time I tell myself I’m just “grabbing something small”. But in the end, I usually end up leaving with a cookie the size of my face. And why not? They have that rustic texture with the gooey center that makes you question every life decision that led to you not getting two. And honestly, they are way to good to stop at one!

Cookie Lab OC – Orange

If you like your cookies thick and dramatic — like the kind you have to break apart with both hands — Cookie Lab is your spot! Their chocolate chip cookie is warm, soft in the middle, and absolutely packed with chocolate. It’s not just a cookie; it’s a dessert experience. If I’m putting together a client gift, this is usually the centerpiece of the gift. Everyone loves them!

Sweet Jill’s Bakery – Seal Beach

Ok, this place is a classic OC staple. And if you’re wanting a delicious cookie, this place hits the spot! Their chocolate chip cookie is one of those big, soft, bakery-style cookies that feel nostalgic from the first bite. Cozy, warm, comforting… and honestly, pretty hard to share. If you grew up loving those big bakery cookies, this will hit home. Trust me, I know!

Pandor Artisan Boulangerie – Newport Beach

If you’re looking for something a little more fancy, Pandor makes the more “grown-up” chocolate chip cookie — lightly crisp, buttery, balanced, and not overly sweet. It’s the kind of cookie you enjoy with a latte while pretending you’re in a European café for ten minutes before heading back into the real world. Sometimes, when I’m in the mood, I hop in the car and head straight there on a warm weekend day. It’s the perfect stop before hitting up the beach!

The OC Cookie Wrap-Up

Every spot on this list brings something different to the table.
If you want thick and warm, go to Paderia or Cookie Lab. If you’re craving that nostalgic classic, Milk & Cookies is perfect! Or, if you want something with your coffee, grab one from Hurst.

And finally, you’re in a “treat yourself” mood, Blackmarket is the move!

If you end up trying one, send me a message and tell me what you think. I’m always looking for an excuse to grab another cookie — you know, “for my clients”!
