Best Donuts In Orange County

If you have been searching for a great donut shop in Orange County, you may have noticed the insane amount of places you can pick from. Well, here is my list of the best donuts in Orange County to help you find your new favorite spot!

Table of Contents

The Donuttery

The Donuttery is located in Huntington Beach — and thank goodness it’s open 24/7 because you never know when a donut craving will strike! All of their donuts are absolutely delicious. Everything from their classic and signature donuts is amazing — seriously, you can’t go wrong.

The vegan and gluten-free options are awesome as well. I am not vegan or gluten-free, and I have tried both — I really cannot tell the difference between their yeast donuts and their gluten-free/vegan donuts. That’s how good they are!

All the donuts are super fresh. I love the cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, and cinnamon sugar-coated raised donuts — those are definitely my favorite. The vegan options like the malasada with vanilla bean custard are off the charts good and totally worth trying.

If you love standard donuts, their selection of the maple bar, old-fashioned cake donuts, and jelly donuts are really good. The blueberry jelly-filled donut would be my choice if you love jelly-filled donuts — it’s a winner.

They do have seasonal flavors throughout the year, which is such a fun touch. Currently, they have pumpkin donuts for the fall season, and it is pretty amazing. Parking can be pretty hard to come by, and the lines can get pretty long, but the service is great and fast — totally worth the wait.

I recommend trying the Maple Bacon Cruller, Ube Raised Donut, Red Velvet Cake Donut, and Vegan Apple Fritter — all seriously delicious!

Address: 17420 Beach Blvd., Huntington Beach, CA 92647
Hours: Open 24 Hours

Sidecar Doughnuts

Sidecar Doughnuts is a popular Southern California donut shop — and for good reason. The specialty donuts are so good. Everything from the maple bacon cake donuts, vanilla bean glazed, chocolate glaze Choc-o-lot donuts, and butter and salt donuts are great donuts — seriously, each one is a treat.

The best thing about Sidecar Doughnuts is that they create amazing donuts with unique flavors you won’t find just anywhere. They have a specialty cake donut called Susie’s Blueberry Pancake. It is a blueberry cake donut covered in maple syrup glaze, and it has a different flavor compared to blueberry donuts served in Orange County — totally unique and super tasty. I also love their version of the old-fashioned cake donut. It has a vanilla bean glaze and it is really delicious.

Sidecar does sell a great cinnamon roll (only on Wednesdays) as well as an apple fritter (Friday only), but they only sell them on certain days of the week. So if you are looking for those donuts, just know you’ll have to plan ahead and go on those days.

The specialty hot coffee and matcha green tea are also worth a mention — they pair perfectly with the donuts. The wait can get long, so I would definitely try to order online if you can. Parking can get tough at the Costa Mesa location, but it’s worth the effort. They have fresh donuts every day, and it is truly one of my favorite donut shops in Orange County.

I recommend trying the Butter & Salt, Huckleberry, Maple Bacon, or the Saigon Cinnamon Crumb — you really can’t go wrong.

Address: 270 E. 17th St. Ste 18, Costa Mesa, CA 92627
Hours:
Monday–Thursday: 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM
Friday–Saturday: 6:30 AM – 9:00 PM
Sunday: 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM

JD Flannel Donuts and Coffee

JD Flannel is not your traditional donut shop — and that’s what makes it so fun. They put out a different menu each month with different flavors, so you’ll need to visit each month to see what new menu items they have. There’s always something exciting and creative to try!

In the last few months, JD Flannel has created some truly delicious donuts. They had a wonderful, fluffy vegan blueberry cake donut. In April, they sold an awesome apple pie bear claw — and I love any of their fillings with their bear claws. Always packed with flavor!

The smoked apple fritters, as well as the seasonal caramel apple fritters, are so good. If you get the caramel apple fritter, make sure you eat it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream — trust me, it takes it to the next level. The lemon jelly-filled powdered donut is really a fresh delight, especially in January.

If you’re around Orange County and visiting San Juan Capistrano in the coming months, you’ll definitely want to try the red velvet donuts, fruit tart donuts, maple bacon donuts (highly recommend if you love the maple bacon bar), the banana foster fritter (tastes like a roasted banana cream pie!), and the fall apple fritter — all amazing choices.

There is ample parking, which is always a plus. It can get busy throughout the day, so plan accordingly. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so make sure you visit Wednesday through Sunday.

I recommend trying the Brown Butter Sea Salt, Pineapple Fritter, Maple Pecan, or the Vanilla Bean Glazed — all seriously good!

Address: 31878 Del Obispo St. Ste. #122, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
Hours:
Wednesday–Sunday: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Monday & Tuesday: Closed

Donut Star-Bagel and Sandwiches

Donut Star doesn’t have all the unique flavors of donuts like the places listed above, but it’s still a great donut shop. All of the traditional cake donuts, chocolate icing glazed donuts, glazed twists, cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, and donut holes (mini donuts) are all amazing — classic and done right!

Donut Star is your traditional donut shop in the best way. I recommend trying the ham and cheese or ham, cheese, and jalapeño croissants. The bagel sandwiches are pretty decent too if you’re in the mood for something savory.

Parking can be a pain because it’s located in a busy shopping center, but it’s worth going if you want a fresh donut or a dozen to take home.

FYI: I know there are other Donut Star locations throughout Orange County, CA, but I’ve found the location off of Alton Parkway has the freshest and most delicious donuts — hands down.

I recommend trying the Glazed Twist, Buttermilk Bar, Chocolate Old Fashioned, or the Cinnamon Roll Donut — all solid choices!

Address: 5365 Alton Pkwy. C, Irvine, CA 92604
Hours: Open 24 Hours

Mission Donuts

Mission Donuts is a cozy, family-owned shop that’s been a hidden gem for years. No frills — just perfectly made donuts the old-school way. The glazed twists are a local favorite, and their classic chocolate bars and crumb cake donuts hit all the nostalgic notes.

If you’re in South OC and craving a fresh, affordable donut, Mission Donuts is a must. Everything is simple, fresh, and made with care.

I recommend trying the Glazed Twist, Maple Bar, Crumb Cake, and Raised Glaze!

Address: 28950 Golden Lantern Laguna Niguel, CA 92677
Hours: Open every day 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM
