I’ll be honest — Orange County doesn’t always get the credit it deserves for sandwiches. But once you start paying attention, you realize there are some seriously good spots here. I’m talking about sandwiches where the bread matters, the portions don’t mess around, and you’re already planning your next visit halfway through eating it.
This is my personal list of the best sandwich places in Orange County — the ones I go back to, the ones I recommend without hesitation, and the ones worth building your lunch plans around.

What Makes a Sandwich Worth It?

For me, a great sandwich comes down to a few things. The bread has to be right. The ingredients need to feel fresh and intentional. And when you pick it up, it should feel like someone actually cared when they made it. If I finish a sandwich and immediately think about when I can have it again, it made the list.

Here are the spots around OC that consistently deliver.

Bronx Sandwich Company – Mission Viejo

This one’s an easy yes. Bronx Sandwich Company does big, bold, no-apologies sandwiches. They’re stacked, messy in the best way, and absolutely filling. The Fat Jerry is a go-to for a reason — it’s indulgent, heavy, and exactly what you want when you’re not pretending to eat light. If you leave hungry, you did it wrong.

Hollingshead’s Delicatessen – Orange

Hollingshead’s feels like stepping into a real deli. The sandwich menu is deep, the portions are generous, and everything tastes high quality. It’s the kind of place where you can tell they’ve been doing this for a long time — no trends, no shortcuts, just really good sandwiches done right.

Cortina’s Italian Market – Anaheim

Cortina’s is one of those places that just gets it. The Italian sandwiches are classic, packed with flavor, and incredibly satisfying. Fresh bread, quality meats, and that old-school market vibe make this a must-stop if you love a solid Italian sub.

The Sandwich Society – Santa Ana

This spot is for when you want something a little more elevated without losing the comfort factor. The sandwiches are creative but still familiar, and every ingredient feels like it belongs. It’s a great change of pace when you want a sandwich that feels thought-out and balanced.

Claro’s Italian Market – Tustin & Other OC Locations

Claro’s is one of my most consistent recommendations. No matter which location you go to, the sandwiches are solid, hearty, and reliable. This is the kind of place you go when you want a classic Italian deli sandwich without overthinking it.

Board & Brew – Multiple OC Locations

Board & Brew is one of those places that just works. The bread is crispy, the fillings are generous, and the sauce ties everything together. It’s a great option when you’re with a group and everyone wants something different — there’s always something that hits.

Rinaldi’s Italian Deli – Costa Mesa

Rinaldi’s has that neighborhood deli feel. The sandwiches are simple, well-made, and loaded with flavor. It’s not flashy — it’s just consistently good, which honestly might be the best compliment you can give a sandwich spot.

East Coast Deli – Irvine

If you’re craving a true deli-style sandwich, this place delivers. The bread-to-meat ratio is right, the flavors are clean, and everything feels filling without being overdone. It’s a great lunch spot when you want something satisfying but not sloppy.

Sessions West Coast Deli – Huntington Beach & Irvine

Sessions brings a little creativity to the sandwich game. The flavors are bold, the combinations are fun, and the sandwiches feel like something you’d actually crave again. It’s a great option when you want something familiar but slightly different.

Finding Your Go-To Sandwich in Orange County

Orange County has way more sandwich depth than people realize.
If you want big, bold, indulgent sandwiches, Bronx is the move.
For classic deli vibes, Hollingshead’s, Claro’s, and Cortina’s never miss.
If you want something a little elevated, Sandwich Society and Sessions are great picks.
