Best Italian Restaurants in Orange County

There’s just something about Italian food, right? Comforting, flavorful, and always best shared with good company. The aroma of garlic and fresh herbs, the warm glow of a wood-fired oven, the first bite of perfectly al dente pasta—it’s an experience that feels like home, no matter where you are. Whether you’re craving handmade pasta, a crispy Neapolitan pizza, or a cozy family-style feast that lasts for hours, Orange County has some incredible spots that locals swear by. From hidden neighborhood gems to long-standing institutions that have been serving generations, there’s no shortage of places to indulge your inner foodie.

Take just a few seconds and check out a few of my favorites (and some local legends) that you’ve got to try.

Table of Contents

The Original Mama D’s Italian Kitchen – Newport Beach

If you know, you know. Mama D’s is one of those places you return to again and again—not just for the food, but for the whole experience. The portions are generous enough to share (though you probably won’t want to), the energy is upbeat and full of that classic, family-style warmth, and their famous pink sauce pasta is everything people say it is—and then some. Every dish feels like it’s made with love, and you can tell the staff genuinely enjoys making you feel right at home.

What to order: Pink sauce pasta with penne, a side of garlic bread that’s perfectly toasted with just the right amount of buttery garlic goodness, and whatever you do, don’t skip the warm cookies they hand out at the end—they melt in your mouth. Seriously, if you want fresh pasta with a quality menu that works just as well for a casual lunch as it does for a cozy dinner, this is the place.

Marri’s Pizza & Pasta – Anaheim

A true family-run classic, Marri’s has been feeding OC locals since the 1950s. It’s the kind of relaxing (small) spot that feels like home after a long day at Disneyland or a busy week. The old-school charm makes it special, from the cozy booths to the warm, inviting atmosphere that hasn’t changed in decades. You can feel the history in the walls, and the friendly service makes every visit feel like you’re part of the family. And the service is amazing—always quick, always kind, and always making sure you leave full and happy.

What to order: Their “Everything Pizza” loaded with toppings so every bite is different, or the baked ziti for that cheesy, bubbling goodness that’s straight out of the oven and impossible to resist.

Cortina’s Italian Market & Pizzeria – Anaheim

Cortina’s is part deli, part pizzeria, part market—and all flavor. So many options! You can grab a sandwich to go, pick up Italian groceries and meats, or sit down for a slice of pizza that’s stood the test of time. The moment you walk in, the aromas of fresh bread, cured meats, and bubbling cheese make it clear why locals love this place. Everything feels authentic, hearty, and made with care, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or stocking up on ingredients for your own kitchen.

What to order for the table: The Italian sub (stuffed with salami, mortadella, and provolone) and a side of their famous garlic knots—warm, buttery, and packed with flavor that keeps you coming back for more.

Modo Mio Rustic Italian Kitchen – Newport Coast

When you’re looking for something a little more elevated, Modo Mio hits the mark. The dishes are hearty but elegant (you’ll want seconds), and the Northern Italian influence shines through in every bite. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it perfect for date night or a special occasion where you want to feel a little indulgent. Every plate feels carefully crafted, balancing bold flavors with refined techniques that make the meal memorable from start to finish.

What to order: Request the Osso Buco with saffron risotto or the pappardelle with wild boar ragu—rich, savory, and unforgettable, leaving you already planning your next visit.

Can't Leave These Out...

Oliver’s Trattoria – Laguna Beach: Provides a cozy and intimate feel, with standout seafood pasta and tiramisu that locals rave about. Perfect for a quiet dinner with friends or a romantic night out.

Ospi – Costa Mesa: Known for their crispy-thin pizza and modern Italian twist, Ospi delivers bold flavors in a sleek, contemporary setting that’s great for casual nights or gatherings.

Baci Italian Restaurant – Huntington Beach: Old-world charm meets classic Italian favorites, from tableside Caesar to rich veal dishes. Every meal feels like a little taste of Italy.

Basillico’s Pasta e Vino – Huntington Beach: Guests are treated to hearty, home-style portions with a cult following. If you love comfort food and pasta done right, this is the place to indulge. Truly a one of a kind experience!

Angelo & Vinci’s – Fullerton: A quirky, family-owned institution with lasagna that feels like Sunday dinner at Nonna’s. Warm, welcoming, and full of personality, it’s a true local gem. Definitely a Sunday family dinner tradition!

Honestly, this list is just scratching the surface. Orange County has so many incredible Italian spots that you could spend months trying new ones and still have places left on your list. These are just a few of my go-tos and local favorites that are always worth the trip, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite, enjoying a date night, or sharing a family-style meal.

If you end up proceeding to try one of the restaurants above, let me know what you ordered (and your review of the place)—I’m always on the lookout for new recommendations myself. And if you’re curious about other local spots (or even thinking about making a move here in OC), don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to make that connection and respond with what I know about the neighborhoods, the hidden gems, and even those off-market homes that never hit Zillow. Consider me your guide to all things OC—food, creativity, fun, content, and home.
