Laguna Hills California is located in South Orange County in Southern California and is a total area of 6.7 square miles. It is approximately 45 miles away from Los Angeles and 74 miles away from San Diego. Four cities border Laguna Hills. It is Aliso Viejo, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, and Laguna Woods.

The city does not have many tourist attractions, but it has Orange County’s nicest parks such as Clarington park, El Conejo park, Costeau park, and Knotty Pine park. The parks have ample green space and places to play baseball, basketball, and tennis. There are plenty of trails for biking and hiking. Laguna Beach and the site of the vast Pacific ocean are just a short distance away.

Laguna Hills History

Laguna Hills was a part of major land grants developed during the rancho era. After Mexico’s Independence in 1821 from Spain. Those who served or were friends of the government in the fight for Mexico’s independence were given vast lands for cattle grazing. Don Juan Avila was granted Rancho Niguel which rest of the western portion of the Saddleback valley.

In 1874 Lewis Moulton purchased 13,000 acres of Rancho Niguel from Don Juan Avila with his partner Jean Piedra Daguerre and increased the original grant to 22,000 acres. They used the land to raise sheep and cattle. Lewis Moulton’s land became subdivided in the 1960s and part of the subdivision Laguna Hills was created.

The city of Laguna Hills started incorporation efforts in 1987. Laguna Hills officially became a city on December 20, 1991. The city hall was relocated to 24035 El Toro road. This current city hall is located in the Laguna Hills Civic center near the Laguna Hills mall.

The city of Laguna has a few private schools. There is Futures Academy in Aliso Viejo and Heritage Christian School in Lake Forest Ca.
